Originally dispatched to New York, USA in 1969, this matching-numbers example was imported into the UK in 1989, where it underwent an extensive bare-metal restoration lasting approximately three years. Since completion, the car has covered just 14,324 miles, fully supported by 21 historic MOT certificates, providing complete confidence in the documented mileage.
Originally finished in Light Blue with Black trim, the car now presents beautifully in its current specification, perfectly complementing Malcolm Sayer’s timeless design. It is supplied with its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, confirming its matching numbers and original factory details.

The restoration was completed to a superb standard and included extensive structural rebuilding with new floors, inner and outer sills, boot floor, a fully rebuilt engine and cylinder head, gearbox overhaul, rebuilt suspension, braking system, complete leather retrim, new dashboard and instrumentation. The underside has also been professionally Waxoyl protected throughout, including inside the sills and box sections, and detailed underside photographs are available.
The history file is exceptional, containing a substantial collection of invoices, restoration records and MOT certificates. More recently, the car has benefited from significant expenditure by respected Jaguar specialists, including a full compression test confirming an excellent, healthy engine, carburettor overhaul and tuning, suspension and steering refurbishment with new bushes and track rod ends, gearbox oil service, dashboard refurbishment, electrical and heater control work, full service, four-wheel geometry and comprehensive road testing.
Mechanically, the E-Type is everything a properly restored example should be. The rebuilt 4.2-litre engine starts instantly, pulls strongly throughout the rev range and maintains excellent oil pressure. The gearbox changes beautifully, the steering is precise, the suspension inspires confidence and, importantly, the car is free from the oil leaks so often associated with classic Jaguars. It drives without fault and is equally suited to touring, concours events or simply enjoying on the open road.
The current owner, a retired University Mechanical Engineering Professor, purchased the car after carrying out an incredibly detailed inspection of every aspect of its condition. Unfortunately, due to ill health, he has reluctantly decided to offer this exceptional example for sale.
Finding a correctly restored, matching-numbers Series 2 Roadster with documented provenance, extensive history and outstanding mechanical condition is becoming increasingly difficult. This is a genuine collector-quality E-Type that is ready to be driven and enjoyed immediately.
