An opportunity to acquire a beautifully presented 1964 Porsche 356C Coupe finished in its original and rarely seen Champagne Yellow with a black interior. This left hand drive example was originally supplied to the USA and represents the final evolution of the legendary 356, widely regarded as the most usable and refined model in the series.
The 356C benefited from significant technical improvements over its predecessors, most notably four wheel disc brakes, improved visibility and enhanced driving dynamics. These developments transformed the driving experience while retaining the timeless styling that established the 356 as one of Porsche’s most iconic creations.
Powered by an air cooled flat four engine, this car has been upgraded with larger capacity pistons and barrels, increasing capacity to approximately 1,720cc. While the engine has not been tested on a rolling road, it delivers excellent performance on the road with noticeably stronger acceleration while retaining the character expected of a classic 356. The engine and chassis are both correct 1964 components, although they are not believed to be matching numbers.
Unlike many 356s that spend much of their lives tucked away in collections, this is a car that has clearly been enjoyed and maintained. It starts immediately, even after periods of storage, idles beautifully and performs exactly as it should. The gearbox selects every gear smoothly, the clutch operates progressively and the car cruises effortlessly with modern traffic, making it equally enjoyable on country roads or longer touring journeys.
The factory Champagne Yellow paintwork is a refreshing alternative to the more common red, silver or black examples and perfectly complements the elegant lines of the Coupe. Sitting on genuine period Fuchs alloy wheels, the car has a purposeful yet understated appearance. A complete set of original steel wheels is also included with the sale.
Inside, the cabin remains wonderfully original. The black leather seats are in excellent condition and provide surprising comfort for longer journeys. The original period radio remains in place, along with the factory rubber front floor mats. The original box weave carpet in the rear shows some age related wear, something many enthusiasts choose to preserve in the interests of originality, although replacement is of course a personal choice.
This is an honest, well maintained and highly usable 356C. It is not presented as a concours example, nor does it pretend to be. Instead, it is exactly the sort of classic Porsche that encourages you to get behind the wheel, enjoy every journey and create lasting memories.
